Our Romantic Getaway!

In April, Brad and I finally went on our first vacation together since our honeymoon!! We've gone places, but never just for relaxation and just the 2 of us without family. With Brad being gone during the week, I knew April would be an ideal time for us to getaway somewhere since the long-distance relationship would probably be hardest by this point. And, I was right! This couldn't have been a better time for us to spend some quality time together away from everything!

Brad has been in Austin, so I planned a trip to go to Fredericksburg to stay at a Bed and Breakfast and just relax doing simple things. We didn't stay downtown, we stayed at a little loft out in the country (we booked it through Absolute Charm if you were interested). It was a very rainy weekend for us, which supposedly brings some flooding to the area, so being out on a country road in wet, dark conditions wasn't necessarily the best thing, but it was very nice to get to see the countryside and the wildflowers and stay away from all the "hustle and bustle" of the town!

Because of the rain, the first change in our plans was getting to the room. The B&B people called me on our way there to let us know we would have to take a round-about way to get to the house since the roads were flooded. Here's why:

Eventually, we saw cars going through it and decided to go through it as well. Once we took the shorter way through the water, the drive back and forth wasn't nearly as bad! The room was perfect! It had a king size bed, a hot tub in the room (which is supposed to hold 2 people, but not 2 Brad sized people!) and was very peaceful.

We woke up in the morning to deer next door.

On our drive back and forth, we were taking farm roads, so we got to see some pretty interesting wildlife!

Goats are a little weird, but very entertaining!

On Saturday, we went to a place called Wildseed Farms which has fields of wildflowers (even through they are planted) and so we went and checked out all of the flowers. It was beautiful. (even if they were intentional!) April is the perfect time to go see wildflowers in hill country!

We also went to a sculpture ranch that you drive to. It was okay. Brad and I aren't really "art" people, so maybe we didn't appreciate as much as some. It was also about 40 minutes outside of town, so it took a long time. Here are a few photos to show some of the "art"!

We had dinner at a German restaurant, The Auslander, which was fabulous! I was so proud of Brad for trying German food! I couldn't imagine him not liking since it's all meat, potatoes, and beer!

We also went to see the Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area which has a cave tunnel that millions of Mexican bats live in. Official bat season wasn't until May, but there were still a few hundred thousand bats that exited. They all kind of tornado out of the bottom of the hill and then fly out. It was kind of cool, but I can imagine it's a lot cooler when there are more. It lasted about 10 minutes for us, but where there are more, it's more like 30 minutes. We also saw the cycle of life with the hawk finding food!

The best part of the weekend was just spending time together. It was so fun. We got to rest and do whatever we felt like. Overall, it was great. A much needed time together. :)
