On to the Specialist

It is official - I have been referred to an infertility specialist.

I went to my doctor today to start the follicle monitoring in preparation for the IUI.  Last month, I had 1 perfect follicle, we had the IUI, and it was unsccessful.  This month, we decided to try for more than just one follicle, so we upped the Clomid.

The sonogram showed lots of activity going on in my ovaries.  I was hopeful, but when I went to talk to my doctor, she said she was torn.  Because of the holidays, I wasn't able to get a base sonogram at the start of my cycle.  Which makes my doc unsure of what I was starting with and whether or not these are actual follicles or cysts.  She leaned more on the side of cysts because they were so large and so many (at least 5).  She didn't feel comfortable giving me an HCG shot because it could rupture a cyst, and she didn't feel comfortable performing a procedure that she was unsure would be beneficial.  We'll try on our own this cycle, and hope for the best.

And from now on, I'm off to a fertility doctor.

I'll call tomorrow and see what he wants to do.  I will not be going back to Dr. G (whom I saw back in July).  I am going to try out the doctor my OB/GYN recommended, and if I'm not liking that, I will be going to a doctor that a friend of mine highly recommends who will be understanding of cost and will file as much as possible with insurance.  We'll see.

I'm bummed, needless to say, but honestly, I have my music program this week, I'm leaving for AR on Friday for the weekend, which means I won't have time to relax and let it take its course.   I'm highly stressed.  So, it's probably all for the better.  Plus, I'm not sure if I want 5 babies...

Yes, We're Still Alive!

Things have been crazy since we've been back on our vacation!  I think that's how it always is though.  You leave, relax, and come back to the craziness of life again!

So, it's time to update you on the progress of life.

Things have been hard.  Things have been frustrating.  Things have been emotional.  Things have just been down right not fair.  But, we go through this for a reason, and all of this is for a good cause!

First things - the house.  Still on the market.  Now for 108 days.  Not quite what we expected to happen.  The market in Wylie is stagnant to say the least.  People have talked to us about renting, and we're just not at that point.  We don't have to move, but we want to.  My anxiety has gone up some as well because the house I've been eyeing has finally moved into our price range and it is completely obtainable and doable!  (Granted, we still haven't even gone in the house, but it's in a great neighborhood, has all of our requirements, and it's minutes from friends and family).  We know God has the right buyer for this house, but it's so discouraging to have only had 6 showings, and none have been in November when supposedly the market has picked up this month.  We just lowered our price to what we bought the house for.  Which means, we're going to lose money.  But, maybe it will bring in the perfect buyer.

Next thing - babies.  I've been hesitant to put any of this on here, but I've been so open thus far, I guess I'll continue!  I started my 4th cycle on Clomid on Oct. 23rd.  We always said that after Hawaii, if we still weren't pregnant, we'd take the next step.  So, this cycle, we chose to do the sonogram monitoring for ovulation instead of the over the counter predictor kits that I was having NO luck with at all.  I went in on the 2nd for my first sonogram, and I had ONE follicle at 16mm, and the lucky number is 18mm.  Follicles tend to grow 2 mm a day, so my doctor had me come in the next day to check on it, and sure enough it was at 17.9mm.  So, we did the HCG trigger injection (which triggers ovulation) and then went in on the 5th for an IUI

Now, for any of you that have gone through this, or will go through this - the HCG shot HURTS.  I was in so much pain for the rest of the day.  The nurse warned me it would hurt, but I had no idea it would be that bad.  It hurt going in, it hurt for hours afterwards.  It was painful.  As for the IUI, this non-evasive procedure is equally as painful and uncomfortable during the procedure.  Not so much afterwards, just a little sore.  I was a little upset with my friends that have done this for not warning me that it won't be comfortable.  I let Brad go home after he did his thing since he had just gotten off work, but if it doesn't work this time, and we have to do this again, he will definitely be staying with me.  It was brutal.

But, overall, this has caused a lot of emotion.  I am not one that handles patience very well.  And this has been the longest 2 weeks to find out if it did work.  I've chosen to be positive.  I have had a lot of negative influences the last week, but I'm going to make this week positive.  I can't stress about this, or it WON'T work.  Brad has been an amazing husband through this, but he's still male, and sometimes he just doesn't understand.  It's easy for him to just be positive and hopeful, but for some reason, it's just not that easy for me.

Most of the PCOS blogs I read have gotten pregnant on about their  3rd IUI.  My doctor tells me I am textbook PCOS, but I have very minor issues.  So, hopefully this will be it.  But, if it's meant for me to wait another cycle or more, I will.  I'm trying not to stress about the financial aspect of it, hoping that our flexible spending account will cover everything, but who knows.

At least I have this precious face to love on!  :)
(This is Keller Tomson - our good friends' 6 month old little boy)

July Update

What a month it has been!

If I told you sometime during this summer that I was a little bored, I take that back!  It seems like these last few weeks have been somewhat CRAZY!

On the baby front, I took a round of Clomid (to induce ovulation) and am still waiting for a positive ovulation predictor kit.  I have to go back to the doctor next week for blood tests, so we will have to see if the medicine actually worked.  I'm not necessarily hoping for a pregnancy this month (even though it would wonderful!) but more of an ovulation!  :)  If I can ovulate on Clomid, this whole thing will be much cheaper!  So, I'm still in waiting.

Next, Brad went to night shifts this week.  He finished Phase 1 of Field Training with flying colors.  He and his FTO clicked very well, and he enjoyed his days.  He really seems to be getting into some meat these days though now that he's on nights.  If you can imagine, a college campus in the middle of the summer, it's a little bit slow!  He's been excited each day with his progress and has had great evaluations each day.  He's going to be an AWESOME cop!  :)  (He told me yesterday that his FTO let him know that he gained a lot of respect from the officers on campus when he took his placement back in July in the ECS building and never once complained about it.  So, I think they regard him highly!)

Also, I officially started my blog design "business".  It's more of just a hobby, and I'm hoping to make a little bit of money from it!  :)  If you haven't already, go check out my design website and let me know if I can spruce up your blog for you!  I'm also doing a giveaway through Giveaways for Mom, so if you're interested in getting a FREE blog update, go here and enter!  I'm enjoying getting to be creative and spending my time making sure I have everything in line!  I know that it may not be a busy business, but it's something to do!  (And if you don't blog, and you know someone that does, send them my way!  I would love some more business from people I love!)

I now have officially less than a month until I go  back to school.  That is sad to me, however I will enjoy being back in a routine.  This staying up late and sleeping until I wake up thing can get somewhat old!

I have also been going through a great Bible study at Prestonwood that has been very eye opening, and I encourage any of you who like to read to pick up the book "Scouting the Divine."  It is an amazing story by Martha Feinberg that really opens your eyes to how God truly is.  I know you'll enjoy it.  It's a pretty quick read, which makes it even better!

Other than that - I've been getting to visit with friends and family and taking care of babies (with friends), so all in all, it's been very busy!  No more boring summer!  :)

Planning Lessons

If you know me at all, I am the epitome of a planner. I plan everything. Rarely do I ever let a day go by that hasn't been planned out in the morning. I plan my meals. I plan our money. I plan vacations that are months away. Since I'm a teacher, I plan me lessons daily. I don't get to just have a stack of things that need to get done by the end of the week. Heck, I still plan what I will say during the lesson. I plan the order of practically every hour at school.

Basically, I am the definition of a planner.

I mean, I'm really good at planning! I have a lot of experience. For my wedding, my wedding party laughed at me for the amount of detail I gave them and the hour by hour schedule that was given for every day. I have a mind that is really good at looking at all of the points and seeing it from every direction.

However, these past few months have truly taught me that I can't plan everything. As I have been getting older, I've found that I try to plan more, but I'm allowed to plan less.

Here are some examples of what I am talking about:

  • We planned to start a family last summer -->Brad got a job that was going to cause him to be out of town for 5 months (which was right when we had expected to try to give birth)
  • We decided to lease 2 vehicles with mileage restrictions thinking we would not have any reason to need to travel very far in the next 3 years --> Brad got a job that was going to require him to travel weekly out of town and I am going to be needed in Arkansas more often than expected to help my mom out.
  • I planned to be 2/3 done with my masters degree at the end of the summer --> My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having a major surgery this summer that will require help and I have summers off so I will be helping as much as possible.
  • I planned to get pregnant in a 2 month window in order to give birth at the end of the school year so I could have the summers off (plus, what teacher really enjoys being there for the last few weeks of school!) --> I was diagnosed with PCOS which generally means I'm going to have a little bit harder of a time getting pregnant - especially within a 2 month window!

So you see, the plans of my adult life have pretty much just slapped me in the face. In every possible way, God has been trying to reach me to say, "Let go. 'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord , plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.'" (Jeremiah 29:11)

This should be my life verse. I know it in my mind, but it is so hard to get it into my heart and truly trust that I can't plan my life. God has a perfect plan.

My phone ring tone is Francesca Batistelli's song (which I love her!!) "I'm Letting Go," which when I heard it for the first time and realized how much I needed this song, I bought it! She's fantastic, and I am daily reminded of her message that I so need to hear:

I’m letting go
Of the life I planned for me, and my dreams
Losing control of my destiny
Feels like I’m falling and that’s what it’s like to believe
So I’m letting go

This is a hard lesson for me, but it really seems to be God's message to me more and more. "Let go Leah, I am here."

Baby Fever?

There are babies everywhere. I mean, everywhere!

Our closest friends are having a baby in May, so we are constantly talking about pregnancy and all the wonderful things that go with that.

We have a couple in our Sunday School class that had twins in January, and every time I see them, I want to hold them and cuddle them!

My art teacher at my school had twins this weekend. I saw them today, and now I would like to go back everyday and love on them. Watch them. Hold them.

Some dear friends are adopting a baby that was born yesterday.

2 other teachers are due within the month at school.

The kids at school are asking me when I'm going to have babies.

My best friend from high school is having a baby.

There are so many other friends and people I know that are pregnant or just had babies.

I think the switch has flipped. I would like a baby. I want to hold one. I want to love on one. And on top of that, I have a man who is going to be an amazing dad and looks HOT when he holds all the babies we get to see. Every time I see him with a baby, it makes me smile and know that God gave me a husband that is going to be an awesome dad and I am very lucky for that! Plus, I just got a new car that would comfortably hold a new baby.

So, God, if you think the time is right, I would like a baby. :)

(Except that I would really like to have a blast in Hawaii in October, so I'd be willing to wait until then if I HAVE to!)

Reminder to self: It will all happen in God's time. :)

If only they lived in Texas

Sorry it has been FOREVER since we've posted. (Almost 3 weeks...too long) But I'm going to try to catch up a little tonight! :-)

A couple of weekends ago, Brad and I took off work and made a trip to Louisiana to visit our friends Cole and Candace who welcomed their new addition, Jackson, on August 28th. Candace is one of my very best friends from college, and I dearly miss her and wish she and Cole would come closer! (Yah right....that will NEVER happen!) It was such a sweet trip and I'm so glad I finally got to spend some real girl time with Candace and help take care of her little boy!

As I mentioned in one of my first posts, this year has been the season of babies!! We have been around so many babies, but they have mostly been little girls! Which girls are so sweet, but it was so nice to see an adorable little boy! Pictures just don't do him justice! He's a sweet little boy.

It seems that we only brought the camera out when Candace and I were in pajamas and glasses, but oh well! They are still sweet memories.

Brad thought is was very funny that they put Jackson in the big bed when they had some things to do!

I guess one big lesson the new parents have had to learn is that boys have a much larger tendency to peeing on you when you take their diaper off! They told us they get peed on almost every day! So now they are finding all kinds of ways to prevent the situation!

On Saturday, we went out shopping a little bit to get and do something. We had a lot of fun trying new places to eat, going to baby stores, and shopping at Target for random things. Since Candace had a C-section, she's not always feeling up to carrying the baby all of the time, so Cole decided to put him in Candace's sling! It's a very nice look for him!

I just can't believe that the baby is comfortable! But he just fits right in there, has a breather area and just curls up and sleeps! What a life! :-)

Now, I'm not sure if anyone has ever ventured on a trip to Louisiana, but if you haven't, I will warn you now! I-49 is one of the most boring drives in the United States. No joke. I tried to take a few pictures to give you an idea of how everything looks the same and there's nothing around! And, it's swampy....so not even pretty scenery. This drive is the #2 worst drives. The #1 slot goes to the Tollway that goes through Kansas. That was rough.

Brad was very excited to see this sign.

Overall, the trip was wonderful. I'm so glad we got to have a good time with our friends. We've had to come to terms with each other that we will always live far away from each other so we're going to have to make it work! I hope they will make it up to Wylie soon! The trip was also a good way of assuring us that we love kids, but we are still not ready for kids. :-) We like to babysit though!

The Blog Life

Well, I feel like I'm growing up! I (We) have entered the blogging world! After many nights of reading all of my friends' blogs, I decided that it might actually be a good idea! We have so many friends that live far away as well as family members, this might be the way I can let everyone know how us "Wylieites" are doing!

Brad and I have been keeping ourselves pretty busy in the recent weeks. School started back for me 3 weeks ago, so things are shaping up and coming together. Brad has been in the same job for almost a year now. I'm sure he'll keep you updated on his new findings while at work.

Lately, our weekend evenings have been about playing board games! Oh the love of board games! It had been so long since we had actually played a game and did something besides watch a movie and eat!!! Brad and I are in to Rummikub (thanks mom!) and Cranium. So, if you're in for a night of competition, CALL US!! Haha!

I think the biggest change in life these days are all the babies around us! In the past 2 weeks, 3 babies have been born to those close to us! We are so happy to have Harper Joy Sherman as a fellow "Wylieite" and so excited for Jeff and Sarah as they are new parents and such a wonderful couple! We can't wait to play and babysit with this little girl! She is a very pretty baby! I'll see if I can get pictures of all of these babies soon! We also had Kinsley Rose Herrington join our family to Nathan and Jamie (Brad's step-sister). Ironically both of these beautiful, peaceful girls were born on the same day! It's been a pleasure to serve both the Shermans and the Herringtons as they are encountering a life change! And lastly, but not least, we had little Jackson Cole Churchman join us all the way over in Louisiana to our good friends Candace and Cole Churchman. It is amazing how God can create such a little miracle and make such beautiful babies. I can't believe how the human body can physically carry these babies and produce these wonderful human beings. As I get closer to being ready to be a mom, it seems more realistic, but right now it is still CRAZY!! Congrats to all 3 of these wonderful families!

I'll be back with more later. It's late. I need to go to bed! :-)
