We have been going to the vet for the last 2 months trying to figure out what was wrong with her. First it looked like anemia. We started a round of medications, and nothing changed, in fact she got worse. Then she started swelling and collecting fluid on her belly and eventually her neck/face. It became evident that her lymph nodes were swollen and were getting worse very rapidly.
This last week, after getting a biopsy done on her lymph nodes (still no results), she took a turn for the worst. She stopped eating, she became even more lethargic, and didn't even get up to greet anyone. It appears that she had canine lymphoma. Even if we had figured out what she had beforehand, the outcome still would've been the same.
This morning, she decided it was time to go.
It's so hard.
She was the best dog a family could ask for. I was so looking forward to making lots of memories with her and Blake. But, that's not what happened. She's in a better place, and I KNOW she's getting all kinds of love up in heaven.
Some fun memories we remember about our sweet Bay-girl:
- In our little rent house when we first got her, she ate and destroyed an entire magnolia tree! For some reason, she didn't like that tree.
- She would slide everywhere on the hard wood floors in that house.
- She loved stuffed elephants. We found an elephant at Target that didn't have stuffing in the body, just the face. We would buy her one occasionally to enjoy. She ripped all of the squeakers in the face out as soon as she could. And then she would just carry the rest of the elephant around for days.
- She tried to teach Oscar how to play. She was so good with him. She would gently nudge him to get to play with her, and eventually he caught on. Of course she could've beat him every time, but she didn't.
- She hated the water hose! What lab hates water?! She would hide between our legs when you had the water hose on because she knew she couldn't get wet. It was quite humorous.
- When she visited Granette's house, she would go straight to the toy basket and have every toy out on the floor in less than 5 minutes. She always had her favorites, but she loved having so many choices to play with.
- She took care of her mommy so much. With Brad being gone so much at Academy and then working nights, she always made sure I was safe. She would get in bed with me until I fell asleep and then would go sit by the front windows guarding the house. She was an amazing protector.
- She loved her daddy and wanted to please him so much. She did everything he asked her to.
- She was the best cuddler. She loved to be cuddled. Almost every morning, she would just wait until she was invited on the bed (unless she got too impatient) and then would come and just cuddle until we wouldn't cuddle any more. She loved being with us.
